What counts as clean wood?
“Clean wood” is an acceptance category with rules set by the receiving facility. Avoid assuming that every wooden item belongs in the same load.
Vancouver’s clean-wood guidance covers solid wood and pallets that are unpainted, unstained, untreated and free of glue. Nails, screws and staples are permitted in that stream. Manufactured wood products are excluded. Check the City’s wood-waste rules for size limits and preparation details.
- Solid lumber and pallets: identify coatings, treatment and contamination before choosing a destination.
- Plywood, MDF and particleboard: describe these separately; do not assume they qualify as clean solid wood.
- Painted, stained or treated wood: keep it separate and confirm an appropriate disposal route.

Surrey drop-off options

Vancouver-area drop-off options
The City directs yard waste and qualifying clean wood to Vancouver South Transfer Station or Vancouver Landfill in Delta for a fee. Its wood-waste page links to each facility’s details. Confirm which destination suits your load; recycling services differ between locations.
When a wood-waste bin may suit your project
A delivered bin can be useful when a renovation, cleanout or construction project produces more material than you want to transport yourself. Compare the rental quote with the time, vehicle capacity and number of trips needed for self-hauling.

Common questions
Do I need to remove every nail or screw?
Vancouver’s clean-wood stream permits nails, screws and staples. Other receiving facilities may set different requirements, so check before preparing your load.
Can plywood go with clean wood?
Do not assume it can. Vancouver excludes manufactured wood products from its clean-wood stream. Tell the receiving facility or bin provider if your load contains plywood, MDF or particleboard.
Is a bin cheaper than taking wood to a facility?
It depends on your load and transport needs. Compare a project-specific bin quote with facility charges, vehicle costs and the trips involved.
Can I mix wood with renovation debris?
Ask before loading. A mixed load may require a different container, disposal route or price from a separated wood load.

Confirm your Fleetwood rental
Rock boxes used for dirt or concrete include three days. Mixed-waste bins include five days. Contact Fleetwood before the agreed pickup if you need an extension, and confirm the additional-day charge and revised collection date in your written quote.
Pricing depends on your delivery city, bin, material and load. Confirm the included weight, loading limits and any applicable charges before booking. Drywall requires a separate drywall-only bin; concrete and dirt require a suitable separate container.
