Vancouver scrap-wood disposal

Choose a disposal plan that suits your wood, your project and the transport you have available.

Whether you have reusable boards, a pile of renovation offcuts or a mixed load, describe the materials before arranging recycling or a bin rental.

Reuse, self-haul or rent a bin?

Reusable boards or intact items

If someone can use the material again, consider offering it for reuse before arranging disposal. Describe its condition, dimensions and any coating or treatment. Confirm acceptance with the recipient before delivery; donation services do not accept every wooden item.

A load you can transport yourself

Check a receiving facility’s material rules, fees and vehicle limits. Factor in loading time, travel and the number of trips as well as the disposal charge.

A larger renovation or ongoing project

A rental bin lets you collect an agreed load at your property and arrange pickup. Ask Fleetwood Waste whether a separated wood load or another waste service suits your materials. Compare the complete quote with the work involved in hauling it yourself.

Identify the material before loading

Vancouver’s clean-wood stream accepts unfinished solid wood and pallets without paint, stain, treatment or glue. It permits nails, screws and staples, but excludes manufactured wood products. See the City’s current wood-waste guidance for size limits and full requirements.

  • Clean solid wood: keep it separate from other debris.
  • Plywood, particleboard and MDF: identify them separately when describing your load.
  • Painted, stained or treated wood: ask which disposal route applies.
  • Furniture or mixed renovation waste: mention upholstery, hardware and other materials rather than describing the whole load as clean wood.

Where to take qualifying clean wood

The City lists Vancouver South Transfer Station and Vancouver Landfill in Delta as options for yard waste and qualifying clean wood, with fees applying. Follow the facility links on the official wood-waste page to check details before travelling.

For a broader location overview, see our Surrey and Vancouver wood-recycling guide. Always confirm that the destination accepts your specific load.

What to include in a wood-bin enquiry

Help us recommend the right service

  • Location: your delivery address or Vancouver neighbourhood.
  • Materials: solid lumber, pallets, manufactured boards, coatings or other debris.
  • Amount: an approximate pile size or description of the project.
  • Timing: preferred delivery date and how long you expect to need the bin.
  • Access: where the container would sit and any driveway or overhead restrictions.

Explore bin rentals in Vancouver and available container sizes. Confirm material acceptance and loading limits before choosing a container.

Check the full rental cost

Ask the quote to state delivery, pickup, included rental time, the waste-weight allowance and any charges for extra days or additional weight. Describe the complete load so the team can identify any material-specific charges. Do not assume a clean-wood price applies to a mixed load.

Common scrap-wood questions

Do nails make clean wood unacceptable?

Not under Vancouver’s published clean-wood rules: nails, screws and staples are permitted. Confirm preparation requirements with your particular receiving facility or bin provider. Review the Material Guide and contact Fleetwood to confirm the requirements for your load before booking.

Can plywood and particleboard go with solid lumber?

Do not assume so. Vancouver excludes manufactured wood from its clean-wood stream. Describe those materials separately when requesting disposal advice or a quote. Review the Material Guide and contact Fleetwood to confirm the requirements for your load before booking.

Is wood recycling free?

The City’s listed clean-wood drop-off options charge a fee. Check the current facility information or request a project-specific rental quote before budgeting. Review the Material Guide and contact Fleetwood to confirm the requirements for your load before booking.

Can I put every kind of scrap wood in one bin?

No. Load only the wood types agreed with Fleetwood. Creosote-treated ties and fire-damaged wood need separate bins; other coated or manufactured wood can have different receiving conditions from clean solid lumber. Review the wood guidance and request a project quote describing each wood type.

Confirm your Fleetwood rental

Rock boxes used for dirt or concrete include three days. Mixed-waste bins include five days. Contact Fleetwood before the agreed pickup if you need an extension, and confirm the additional-day charge and revised collection date in your written quote.

Pricing depends on your delivery city, bin, material and load. Confirm the included weight, loading limits and any applicable charges before booking. Drywall requires a separate drywall-only bin; concrete and dirt require a suitable separate container.
